Ricardo Gonzalez The Spanish Promised Land

Some of us here have felt a bit like the children of Israel wandering through the desert seeking to reach the promised land. Do you know that feeling?

Specifically here I'm referring our wanderings now from the old SpeakSpanish.com platform (which worked but was slow and sometimes problematic) to this new more community-based platform with a lot of stuff on it. I've tried to streamline it here but no matter what I do it still takes three clicks to get to a lesson in… Continue

Jessica Isaac Spanish Meetup Groups

I had the wonderful opportunity of going to Toronto this week to attend the "Toronto's Spanish Group" September meet-up. I have been learning with Bilingual America's SpanishPower™ Course here at SpeakSpanish.com and am in the Expert Level. I have always been the shy type of person who enjoyed listening to others speak but was too embarrassed to actually "show off" what I had learned. This was the first opportunity which actually forced me to put what I had learned to use with a group of…

Mark Green Why Spanish after 50?

As an older student of 52 it was a daunting task to begin learning the Spanish language!

Both of our twin daughters speak Spanish and we hope this will be fun as a family as my wife Marcia and I learn Spanish together. Later in life we hope to be with our daughter in Ecuador for extended periods of time. She is a missionary there. Lauren loves the Ecuadorian people and has established many relationships of lasting value over the past three years.  My wife and I hope to visit there and… Continue

DANA RANDOLPH Learning Spanish

Speaking a second language has always been something that I've wanted to do.

When a co-worker informed me about SpeakSpanish.com and Bilingual America's Claro Initiative, due to the rising number of Hispanic customers we are receivng, I jumped at the opportunity.

I really want to master this language, not just to know a language, to be able to be of more help to my diverse community. No one should have to walk into a place of business and…

Dan Light Breaking the Ice and Using your Spanish

I am a recent graduate of the Spanish Power course and I cannot say enough great things about this program and the opportunities that I have had to make friends and strengthen relationships by using my Spanish.  I would like to share some of my learning experiences with the community here at speakspanish.com.

I have had many great conversations in Spanish with Spanish-speaking people who have been part of my life for many years.  Following Ricardo’s advice, I did not start…

Dan Casey Will I Speak Spanish Well after the Expert Level?

This is a question we all asked ourselves before we began the Spanish course here and one I continued to ask myself all the way up until the Expert Level.  The answer is YES. ¡Sí!  I can (and so will you) communicate in Spanish for hours on end with a native speaker after completing the Expert Level.

I started the basic level of Spanish Power several years ago and I used to read the message boards Ricardo had back then to get any nuggets of wisdom from the…

Timothy Babcox Oscar Alemán y La Canción "Bésame Mucho"

Not too long ago, the song Bésame Mucho was selected for paced singing.  Also not too long ago, I studied jazz guitar in college.  To this day, "Bésame Mucho" is still considered a jazz standard, and it was long before I was born.

One of my favorite versions is by a virtuosic guitarist named Oscar Alemán (February 20, 1909 - October 14, 1980).  He was born in Machagai, Chaco Province in Northern…

Bryan B Reverting to Your Primary Language.

First off, I am not claiming to be a psychologist, but this what I have experienced in my journey of learning Spanish.

As a Firefighter/Paramedic we encounter people in difficult and often very stressful situations.

Living in Central Florida there are a lot of Spanish-speaking people and many are bilingual. However, while trying to get information from them they will only speak Spanish.

Now, my crew knows…
