Interactive Map of Hispanics in The United States

If you are in business, marketing, outreach, or are just curious about where all those 50 million plus Hispanics live in the United States, check out the most recent Interactive Hispanic Population Maps put out recently by Pew Hispanic Research.

Oh, so much fun!

¡Qué diversión!

Below are tres cosas muy interesantes:

1. There are more Hispanics in Los Angeles County than there are in several Latin American countries. If you really want to have fun, login to the site and go to the Country Resource Center within your main Student Resource Center and you'll see which ones.

2. The fifth largest pocket of Hispanic population in the country is Cook County, IL (Chicago area). My older brother Pablo Jr. was born in Cook County and I can tell you he was well before his time. Well, after giving that some more thought, I think it was Pablo Sr. who was before his time in Cook County, IL. Bueno, comprendes el punto, ¿no? (Well, you get the point right?)

3. The largest percentage growth of Latinos in the country was in, you'll never guess... Paulding County, GA! In fact, out of the Top 10 fastest Hispanic growing counties in the country, three were in Georgia.

With Georgia's new Arizona style immigration law recently being passed, Paulding County's growth may come to a halt quite quickly. According to my reliable sources in the state of Georgia, they are already starting to see people moving out. Well, not necessarily out of state, just to other counties and cities who are more tolerant towards them. All interesting stuff to say the least.

Check out the interactive maps here and trust me you could spend hours poking around. At the very least, check out the area where you live. Enjoy!

P.S. - By the way, I post these cultural things from time to time because learning Spanish isn't enough. If you really want to communicate effectively with people you must also understand them. You don't have to live like them or live with them, but you do have to care enough learn to understand them. I've learned over the years that the more you care about Hispanics, the more motivation you'll have to learn Spanish and to want to speak Spanish well. The two do go mano en mano.
