Not too long ago, the song Bésame Mucho was selected for paced singing. Also not too long ago, I studied jazz guitar in college. To this day, "Bésame Mucho" is still considered a jazz standard, and it was long before I was born.
One of my favorite versions is by a virtuosic guitarist named Oscar Alemán (February 20, 1909 - October 14, 1980). He was born in Machagai, Chaco Province in Northern Argentina.
During the prime of Oscar's career, unfortunately for him, a gypsy guitarist named Django Reinhardt happened to be taking the music world by storm and dimmed his star. He´s really been more recognized in the past five to ten years.
Most of the time when the Bésame Mucho is played, it´s performed as a ballad. Oscar decided to take the song, make it up tempo, and very tongue in cheek. For example, you´ll hear his band making kissing noises throughout the performance.
Not only was he an amazing guitarist, he was also a great singer. I hope you enjoy the video below of his work:
